7:00pm Adios Amor: The Search for Maria Moreno

Join us for the Harvest of Joy photo exhibit and screening of Adios Amor: The Search for Maria Moreno. The Harvest of Joy photo exhibit showcases photography from children and youth in Conexión Américas Migrant Education Program. Students were invited to express who they are through photos of aspects of their lives that bring them joy, things are special to them, give them strength or make them happy.

From Nashville Public Television, we will also be screening the documentary Adios Amor: The Search for Maria Moreno:

In Adios Amor, the discovery of lost photographs sparks the search for a hero that history forgot—Maria Moreno, a migrant mother driven to speak out by her twelve children’s hunger. Years before Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta launched the United Farm Workers, Maria picked up the only weapon she had—her voice—and became an outspoken leader in an era when women were relegated to the background. The first farm worker woman in America to be hired as a union organizer, Maria’s story was silenced and her legacy buried—until now. adiosamorfilm.com

About the Migrant Education Program

From the tobacco fields and poultry processing plants of East Tennessee to the cotton and soybean fields in West Tennessee, our Migrant Education Program identifies migrant farmworker families across the state to make sure their children receive a quality education in spite of moving often. Our team identifies and enrolls children and youth, provides in-home tutoring and after school programming, and organizes several summer camps across the state, including a stay at East Tennessee State University for high school students. The Migrant Education Program serves families from Mexico, Guatemala, Southeast Asia, Uganda, Congo and more. Learn more at ConexionAmericas.org
