A federal court decision on October 31 brings an important measure of relief. The temporary order blocking the planned halt of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits means that food assistance will continue for the 42 million Americans who rely on it, including thousands of families here in Nashville.
These rulings appear to apply nationwide, though the federal government may appeal. Even if funds are released, November SNAP benefits may still be delayed as states process payments. We will continue to monitor updates and share what this means for families in Tennessee.
This decision offers a pause, not an ending.
Hunger does not wait for policy to settle, and our work to grow, cook, and share nourishing food with our partners continues across the city.
